What does Softball Scorer do?

Softball Scorer is a live scorekeeping app for rec-league softball: manage team rosters, track balls/strikes and baserunners, and keep an inning-by-inning box score for both teams as you play.

Getting Started

1. Create a team

Open the Roster tab. Type a name into the blank row at the bottom of the team list and hit return (or tap elsewhere) to save it. You can create as many teams as you manage.

2. Add players to the roster

Tap a team to open its roster. Each row has a Name, jersey #, and Position — only the name is required. Type a name in the blank row at the bottom and hit return; it's saved and a fresh blank row is ready for the next player, so you can enter a whole roster without lifting your fingers off the keyboard. Swipe left on a player to remove them, or use Edit to reorder the batting lineup.

3. Start a game

From the Games tab, tap the + button. Enter the opponent's name, whether you're home or away, the number of innings, and an optional run limit per inning (a "mercy rule" cap — leave it at 0 for no limit). If you manage more than one team, pick which one you're scoring for. Tap players in the order you want them to bat, then tap Start.

Live Scoring

Balls & strikes

Tap the row of green circles to add a ball, or the row of red circles to add a strike, as each pitch is thrown. A 4th ball automatically walks the batter; a 3rd strike automatically records a strikeout. You can also skip pitch-by-pitch tracking entirely and just tap the BB or K button directly.

Recording a hit or out

Tap the button matching what happened: 1B/2B/3B/HR for hits, or GO (ground out), FO (fly out), FC (fielder's choice), E (reached on error), or SAC (sacrifice) for the rest. The pitch count resets and the lineup automatically advances to the next batter.

How automatic baserunner advancement works

Each play moves runners using one consistent rule, so the score stays accurate without you tracking it by hand:

If a runner actually advanced further than the rule above assumes (for example, they scored from 2nd on a single because of an outfield mistake), just tap that runner's base on the diamond afterward to correct it — see below.

Manual corrections

Real games don't always match the automatic rule exactly — a stolen base, a pickoff, or a run that should or shouldn't have counted. Two manual controls handle that:

Run limit

If you set a run limit per inning when starting the game, a dialog appears the moment the batting team reaches it, offering to switch sides/end the inning or keep playing. Choosing to continue won't interrupt you again until the half-inning actually ends.
